Take back control of your physical and mental health by entering Total Physical Therapy’s Recovery and Rehabilitation program. We understand the struggles faced during prolonged inactivity and the debilitating effects of injuries or illness. Our team of experienced, licensed physical therapists can help you get back to your full potential and feeling better than ever.

What Is Reconditioning Therapy?

Deconditioning happens when your body loses function in areas due to inactivity. Reconditioning serves as a form of physical therapy that reactivates and restores those areas in a controlled, safe, and manageable way.

The elements used in Total Physical Therapy’s Reconditioning program revolve around strength, endurance, mobility, and flexibility. Our one-on-one sessions give patients the tools to perform exercises at home and take control of their recovery while providing them with hands-on therapy and monitoring critical to full recovery.

This approach to reconditioning ensures the fastest path to recovery so patients can resume their normal activities. Reconditioning typically happens after traditional physical therapy. Physical therapy creates the conditions necessary for a full recovery and reconditioning gets the patient back to optimal performance.

Reconditioning for Physical Injuries

Reconditioning for physical injuries such as torn ligaments, broken bones, and sprains is different from reconditioning for illnesses such as COVID-19. The elements of reconditioning for physical injuries include:

01

Strengthening

These exercises gradually add weight stress to the body and improve strength and stabilization.

04

Speed

Speed exercises focus on improving the patient’s speed while focusing on their technique to prevent re-injury.

02

Plyometrics

Plyometrics are exercises designed to improve patients’ power and stabilization. They focus primarily on jumping and landing correctly. These exercises are typically for athletes and, depending on the injury, plyometrics may be too advanced for certain patients during this period in therapy.

03

Agility

agility exercises focus around the ligament or joint stability while changing direction.

05

Metabolic Capacity

Metabolic capacity focuses on the patient’s endurance. The endurance includes both cardiovascular endurance and the endurance of the injured area.
